What You Need to Know About the Playground Upgrade
The new playground at Mitchell Airport Park will replace aging equipment that had been in place for nearly 30 years. The outdated structures are being removed to make way for a completely revamped, modern play area designed to be inclusive and welcoming for all children, regardless of age or ability. The project is set to wrap up in the spring of 2025, with most of the construction happening this fall.
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley emphasized the importance of community feedback in making parks like this one better for families. “Our parks are a reflection of the needs and desires of the community, and we’re grateful for the public’s input on this project. We are investing in safe, accessible spaces where children and families can thrive.”
The new design will feature updated play structures that encourage physical activity, social interaction, and plenty of fun. So if your family enjoys climbing, sliding, and exploring together, Mitchell Airport Park will soon have even more to offer!
A Community-Centered Project
Milwaukee County Board Supervisor Jack Eckblad, whose district includes Mitchell Airport Park, also celebrated the start of construction. “This playground has been a beloved part of the park system for decades, and I’m excited to see it get the attention it deserves. Families in the neighborhood will have a beautiful, welcoming space to make memories.”
Milwaukee County Parks Executive Director Guy Smith echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the ongoing efforts to revitalize public spaces. “Our goal is to create parks that not only offer recreation but foster connection within the community. We can’t wait to see families enjoying this new playground.”
When Can Families Expect to Visit?
Construction will continue over the next few months, with a grand opening planned for spring 2025. The timing of some playground features depends on the weather, so keep an eye out for updates as the warmer months approach.
As Milwaukee County continues to prioritize safe, engaging outdoor spaces for families, this new playground will be another fantastic spot to add to your list. Mitchell Airport Park will soon be buzzing with the sounds of kids playing, climbing, and laughing—making it a perfect destination for family outings.
We can’t wait to see it come to life! Stay tuned for updates, and be sure to plan a visit when the new playground officially opens next year.
