It’s the time of year when many of us are fall cleaning at home, but sometimes you may encounter chemicals and items that you don’t know what to do with.
If you have old painting supplies, weed killer, pools chemicals, and other hazardous materials in your home, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District will take if off your hands for free.
Bringing your unused household chemicals to MMSD’s Home HazMat Collection Program helps protect our drinking water, too.
The drop-offs are free and easy to use for Milwaukee County residents. You don’t even have to get out of your car.

Please follow the below safety procedures due to COVID-19:
- You must stay in your vehicle at all times
- Put all items in your trunk or as close to the hatchback as possible. For social distancing purposes, we will NOT accept or unload any items in back seats that are directly behind the driver’s seat.
- We will NOT return cardboard boxes used to transport items to the collection.
- We WILL return gas cans used for transporting old gas or gas/oil mixtures. However, the cans will be sprayed with a disinfectant before we hand them back to you.
