How to Play Jeopardy
- Game Setup:
- Jeopardy is played with three contestants or teams.
- The game board consists of a grid with different categories (such as “Science,” “History,” or “Movies”) and various point values assigned to each question.
- Choosing a Category and Point Value:
- The contestant in control selects a category and point value.
- The host reads the clue aloud.
- Providing the Correct Response:
- Contestants buzz in using a handheld signaling device when they know the correct response.
- The first contestant to buzz in has the opportunity to respond.
- Responding in the Form of a Question:
- Contestants must phrase their response in the form of a question, even if the clue is presented as a statement.
- For example, if the clue is “This is the capital of France,” the correct response would be “What is Paris?”
- Scoring Points:
- If the contestant responds correctly, they earn the points corresponding to the clue’s value.
- If the contestant responds incorrectly, the points are deducted from their score.
- If no contestant provides a correct response, the host reveals the answer, and no points are awarded or deducted.
- Daily Doubles:
- Throughout the game, there are special clues called “Daily Doubles,” where contestants can wager a chosen amount from their current score.
- If the contestant responds correctly to a Daily Double, they win the amount wagered. If they respond incorrectly, they lose that amount.
- Final Jeopardy:
- At the end of the game, the contestants have a chance to wager a portion of their scores on the category revealed as “Final Jeopardy.”
- The contestants write their wagers on a special display device without revealing them to others.
- After the category is revealed, the host reads the Final Jeopardy question.
- Contestants write their responses in the form of a question.
- Once time is up, the contestants reveal their responses, and their wagers are revealed.
- The contestant with the highest score after Final Jeopardy is declared the winner.
