Girls Rock camp is a one-week summer day camp for girls and gender-expansive youth ages 8-16.
Youth campers of all skill levels learn an instrument (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard or vocals), form a band, write a song and perform their original song on stage at an end-of-camp showcase for friends, family and fans. Throughout the week, campers also attend workshops that are designed to develop a strong sense of empowerment while fostering creativity and a sense of belonging, such as being brave on stage, songwriting, arts and crafts, and more.
Girls Rock Camp provides youth a creative outlet, a voice, and an opportunity to be surrounded by mentors and other creatively inspired youth in a supportive, inclusive environment. Writing and playing a song together brings a sense of accomplishment and leads to a sense of empowerment. It takes an act of bravery to get up on a stage!
Camp sessions are held for a week each in summer months at the Helene Zelazo Center of the UW-Milwaukee – Peck School of the Arts in Milwaukee, WI.
Showcases are performed at Vivarium on Milwaukee’s East Side.
